DON MASTERS SUMMER CLASSIC

2009 DON MASTERS SUMMER CLASSIC


The 2009 Don Masters Summer Classic was a very hot one. Their were 28 pitchers that 
came out and participate in the tournament. Their were a special presentation and an 
award present to Don Masters. This tournament was dedicated in the name Don Masters 
Summer Classic. This will be an annual sanction tournament event for the club. Don is 83 
year old and has been pitching for over 50 years. He was a member of the Chesapeake 
Club and now he is a member of both Portsmouth and Sleepy Hole Horseshoe Club. Don 
has won 3 League Titles, and won the State Elder Championship in 2005. Don just loves 
the sport of the game. His family came out and witness this special day. They were really 
proud of him as well as all the pitchers in the tournament. 

There were 5 Classes with 6 players in 4 class and 4 players in 1 class. The top 3 winner 
in each class are as follow: Class-A, 1st Place Renee Cowan: 55.79%, 2nd Jerry Colyer: 
58.26% and 3rd Dewey Ed Storms: 53.91%. In Class-B, 1st Matthew Taylor:  34.38%, 
David Cowan Jr: 41.84% and 3rd  Hope Presho: 51.88%.  Class-C: 1st James Allen: 
41.91%, 2nd Mickey Gillespie: 35.71% and 3rd Bobby Spencer: 32.98%.  In Class-D: 1st 
Dewain Hammond: 29.57%, 2nd Brian Mitchell: 28.72 and 3rd Kenneth Robinson: 
16.85%. In Class-E: 1st Gary Martin: 23.53%, 2nd Tony Presho: 30.36% and 3rd Thomas 
Banks.. The tournament went along very well and everybody had a great time. A couple 
of players had to leave the game because of the heat. We like to thank all the pitchers that 
came out and celebrate the special presentation and the dedication of the Don Masters 
Summer Classic.
