COAST GUARD FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY
August 2, 2008

HORSESHOE TOURNAMENT

The 2008 Coast Guard Day horseshoe tournament was a great success. There were 24 personnel that participated in the tournament. This was the largest turnout ever. There were six classes – the participants included juniors both male and female, adults both male and female, seniors and elders. Everyone really enjoyed the tournament and had a wonderful time.

The six class winners were: Class A - Paul Caviness, Class B - Bobby Taylor, Class C - Bobby Martine, Class D - Byran Robbins, Class E - Rick Green and Class F - Chris Lang.

The six class winners then had a playoff to determine the overall winner. Paul Caviness defeated Rick Green 23-3, Bobby Taylor defeated Byran Robbins 21-14 and Chris Lang defeated Bobby Martine 21-13. The three top winners had a round robin to determine overall winner, and had to go a double round because every one broke even with a 1-1 record.

In the second round Paul came out on top and claimed the tournament’s Overall Champion. This was Paul’s second championship in a row. Chris Lang was the runner-up champion. The playoff was very exciting and everyone really enjoyed it.

The Portsmouth Horseshoe Club would like to thank the following club members that helped put this tournament together: Jim O'quinn, James Allen, Deforest Mapp, Fred Smith, David Moser and Sherwood Brown. This was the fourth year that the club hosted this special event for the Coast Guard Family and Friends Day. We are looking forward to do it all over again next year!
