What a way to kick off the Summer!
Even Sonny and Cher arrived unexpectedly
showing up to watch the excitement this event generates.
The Summer Fun event may have moved to beat the heat, but
the heat came with it. Friday evening was hot and sticky, Saturday very pleasant
and on Sunday gorgeous, the heat turned on in the 30 and 40 foot champion
classes. Rivers Prewette,
Joan Elmore, cool and collected, took out her opponents one by one winning them all. Slightly below her average she still pulled off an 82.69% for the day. Joan gave out a few blisters of her own. Two of them and one big blister was with Robert Zumbahlenher, 48 shoes and hit a 95.83% in the game. Ouch! Robert held a 66% against her. Over in the 40 foot championship the last round of play, Shannon Foster with one loss and Walter Ray with none, Shannon started out poorly. Walter jump out with the lead. Midway, Walter 24 and Shannon 12, Shannon dug deep inside and managed to tie the game at 34 points. Walter eeked out a point. THEN - two dead one point Shannon. Four dead! Then another two dead one for Shannon. 37-35 Shannons favor. And then BANG three ringer three Shannon!. It took Shannon 96 SHOES to force the championship class into a playoff. With a slight break to verify the scores several awards where given out.
Shannon and Walter prepared the courts. At the food tent, Mac, During the break the crowd gathered on the hill filling the bleachers. If a tree fell in the woods, do you hear it? When a ball hits the hardwoods and rolls you hear it, when a horseshoe flies do you hear it? All you could hear was the birds singing until the CLINK! The play off started just like the previous game. Walter jumped out to the
lead, midway he held a 32 -16
