Well the cold months have come and are slowly going. The Ruther Glen Horseshoe Club has wrapped up its two winter tournaments with a tremendous turnout. I personally would like to say thank you to John Monarchy from Maryland and Thomas Banks from Richmond for bringing in such a wonderful group of guys. Our February tournament we welcomed 6 new pitchers and one that we haven’t seen in a few years. We were even able to get some gentlemen in from North Carolina, thank you to Elijah Lloyd and Victor Tillery. From Richmond we welcome Bryant Ramsey and welcome back Kenneth Robinson and from Maryland we welcome Brad Combs, Danny Todd, Steve Lacey, Charlie Lacey and Angela Faneuf. In our A Class we had Randy Rickard bring home 1st place with a 5-0 record at 37.00% and Don Masters bringing home 2nd with a 3-2 record at 28.00%. In B Class Sherwood Brown took 1st with a 5-0 record at 26.00% and Walter Hunt in 2nd with a 4-1 record at 25.00%. Our C Class was won by newcomer Angela Faneuf with an impressive 5-0 record averaging 14.50% and 2nd also by a newcomer Bryant Ramsey with a 4-1 record at 18.50%. With the weather barely out of the freezing mark I have to say these are pretty good averages and just beware when it gets warm. For our March tournament I ran things a little differently, due to the overwhelming phone calls from people wanting to play I decided to go for a 2 day event. We welcomed a couple of great pitchers from Pennsylvania this time, thank you to Walter Burtner and Joan Douglas. We played our A Class handicapped this year because of the huge percentage break with Ronald Walker coming in with 73.14% and our lowest in the class David Cowan Jr. at 45.03%. This first day started out a lot colder than in February and we even had a few snow flurries. In A Class Ronald Walker took 1st with a 4.5-0.5 record at 64.40% (it was the first tourney of the year for most of these players) and Richard Brown walked away with 2nd with a 4-1 record at 43.60%. Also on Saturday in B Class Tonya Hix took 1st with a 4-1 record at 28.50% and John Monarchy followed in 2nd with a 3-2 record after a three way tie for 2nd with 28.50% as well. E Class ended day one with newcomer from Maryland Steve Lacey walking away with 1st with a 5-0 record at 26.00% and other newcomer Bryant Ramsey from Richmond in 2nd with a 4-1 record at 26.50%. On day two we started out a little warmer and those Richmond guys were ready to go with C Class beginning our day with Ronney Lee in 1st with a 4-1 record at 29.00% and Richard Owens in 2nd with a 3-2 record at 25.00% knocking me out by 1.00% I might add but that 5.00% first game can really hurt ya know. Last but not least D Class ended our tourney with Floyd Hix taking 1st place with a 5-0 record at 20.00% and Thomas Banks coming in 2nd with a 4-1 record at 6.50%.
