Hill City Fall Ringers

The local Lynchburg players really turned out for the second sanctioned event at Miller Park this year. They showed up to show the rest of us how to sling ringers. I don’t know where these folks have been practicing, but most of them are really good pitchers. Marty Coleman and Mark Bunch – both A/B class pitchers themselves – have their hands full with the group, and lots of good competition. William Flowers took B Class by storm, winning all 7 of his games with a 51.32 overall for the day. Ronald Green – new pitchers signed up in the morning – kept moaning about his own poor performance. Ronald came in 3rd in the class, but his average was 51.85 for the day !! A Class, watch out, he said he’s not really warmed up yet or even in a groove! Amy Hall won the A Class rounds, 6-0, with an 83.33% for the day, she was pleased to have done so well. Mark Bunch was also pleased - he scored 16 points during his game against Amy, not too shabby himself. His high game for the day was against Lenwood Conner – Mark pitched 69% in that game, winning against Lenwood’s 64% . Great pitching from both players!! Another new pitcher this year, Greg Walton won D Class 7-0, with a 35.71 for the day. I’ll bet he won’t be in D Class next year, he’ll be moving up, and giving his opponents good games on the way. Second place in the class was determined by percentage – Randy Hughes and Michael Huff both had 5-2 records. Randy took the place with a 32.35 vs Micheal’s 27.3 . It was great to have Raymond Deal back on the courts, he won C class 7-0 ending the day with 48.99%, after having sat out all summer. One thing we’ve always commented on about Raymond….he takes to this sport like a fish to water… it comes naturally and he’s got the knack and skill needed to get the shoe on the pin consistently. Despite the heat (91 and humid off the courts, about 97 on the courts), thirty one pitchers signed up, twenty nine finished the event. Two dropped out due to the heat, and we were keeping a close eye on some of those that insisted on finishing. We had a fun time, and look forward to pitching again next year in Lynchburg’s Miller Park. Pat
