Story by Kevin Snelgrove
July 28, 2007
| Heat, humidity and a thunderstorm was the scene for this
year’s Sweet Dreams. The 5k race started one half hour earlier
this year right at 7:30 am. The earlier start time made it difficult
to get photos facing east, combined with the humidity in the
air, a lot of the shots came out dark. I had a bit of help with
the photos from Jeremi Skillman, he rode in the back of a pick
up truck along the race course and got a few nice ones.
Neil Brydge from Lyndhurst tried for a third time to have
the best time, but was beaten by a junior runner. Neil still
won first in the men’s division.
Twenty four pitchers competed at horseshoes, during the hottest
part of the day. The champion class was a mix of people from
all over the state, Ed Thompson ( Faber) was the champion, Joe
Presho (Richmond) runner up , Roger Morris (Stanardsville) 3rd
place and Harland Sousi ( Waynesboro) came in 4th.
Both events managed to beat the thunderstorms and rain late
in the day. At the main event in Stuarts Draft Park, the venders
and crafters pack up an hour early due to the downpours.
As the sponsor of the 5K and Horseshoe event 2008 will be
my 20th anniversary as a business person in Stuarts Draft, please
invite your friends and family out and enjoy in our celebration!
