As sponsor of the 5k race and horseshoe venues at Sweet Dreams it
was a great feeling to see the smiles and hear the comments from the runners and
pitchers. Both events grew in the numbers of contestants. I look forward to next
year becoming even bigger.
Despite the weatherman’s predictions we had a beautiful day for both events.
The start of the race had great temperatures, not to hot and not to cold.
Fifty-nine runners worked up a sweat completing the 5k course, returning to the
finish line a gentle breeze helped cool them off. Neil Brydge won the race for
the second year in a row.
Twenty-three pitchers took part in the horseshoe event.. Many of the games
were decided by a few points. Michael Gordon (Buena Vista) last years champion
found the competition a bit stiffer this year. Michael managed to make it into
the championship round against John Hamm (Stuarts Draft), Jack Abrams (Stephen
City) and Jackie Whetzel (Harrisonburg). Jackie holds this years title with
Michael as runner up, Jack in third and John finishing forth.
Photos have been posted for both events. I am certain I got a shot of
everyone. The 5k has nearly 400 photos and the horseshoes about 100 shots, some
good and some not so good. The photo have been reduce in size, if you would like
