When my cousin invited us to a family reunion at her house in Massachusetts,
Kevin & I were bound and determined to attend. After all, it’s been a long time
since the family all got together as a group. Unfortunately, the reunion date
landed on the same date that the Draft Doubles was scheduled. Glenn Bouley,
league, volunteered to run the event, and Sue Guyer, Stuarts Draft Auxiliary,
volunteered to assist wherever needed. We were very thankful to leave things in
their capable hands.
Already familiar with HS Master for running our league, in the days preceding the event, we gave Glenn a crash course on the use of HS Master for tournaments. As things go, spontaneous training can’t cover ALL circumstances, which is what Glenn ran into while setting up the classes. After a brief delay, he got things running just fine, using the “au-man-u-ell” system, which is always available as a back up. Once the pitchers were on the courts and things were figured out with the computer, Glenn and Sue both relaxed. The day, predicted for rain showers, proved the weather man wrong for once. The entire event was started and ran to completion before the rain moved in that evening. Enough pitchers showed up to make up three classes – thank you all. C Class was the only class to end up with a play-off for first place. The teams of John Cummings & Chuck Duymich vs. John Ham & Jeremi Skillman… coming into the playoff, each had a record of 3-1. Duymich & Cummings won the class title, with a record of 63-30 (40 shoe limit games). Congrats all, fine pitchin’. Both A and B class had hands-down winners. In A Class, the team of Raymond Deal & Hearl Kelly ended with 4-0, and in B class, the team of Bobbie Hoover & Ronald Simmons also ended with 4-0. Although Kevin & I are sorry to have missed the event, we couldn’t have made a different decision. The feed back afterwards told us that the pitchers had a good time, Glenn & Sue did an excellent job handling the event and all the details that needed taking care of. We’d like to extend thank-you’s to the club members that “pitched in” and were there early and late. Also to the pitchers that stayed late and helped close up the courts – THANK YOU!! and JESSICCA MATSKO for being there attending to the FOOD!! Thank you all for a successful event. We’ll see you on the courts real soon. Pat & Kevin |
