2005 Suffolk Peanut Fest

The Second Annual Suffolk Peanut Fest Horseshoe Tournament Hosted by Portsmouth Horseshoe Club on October 29, was blessed to have a beautiful sunny and cool weather. This event was schedule on October 8, due to the wash out by rain; the tournament was rescheduled October 29 at 10:00 AM. Thirty- six pitchers signed up for the Open tournament.

There were seven class round robin events. The top three winners in each class are as follow: Class –A, First Place Ken Henson, Second Place Don Master, and Third Place Bill Maitland. Class- B, First Place Alvin Bowers, Second Place Ronnie Reeves, Third Place Butch Eure. Class- C, First Place Tom Bunting, Second Place Willie Jones, Third Place Bill Ponton. Class-D, First Place David Moser, Second Place Chuck Davis, Third Place Noma Venevage. Class –E, First Place Herman Harper, Second Place Bobbie Spencer, Third Place Marvin Chesson. Class-F, First Place Ronnie Reeves, Second Place Richard Owens, Third Place Willie Jones. Class-G, First Place Don Master, Second Place Bill Maitland, Third Place Robert Snowden.

The Seven Class Winner advanced to the Championship Single Elimination. In the first game Herman Harper defeat Ronnie Reeves 27-1 and advance to the Semi-Final in bracket # 1. Alvin Bowers defeat David Moser 25-14 and advance to play Herman Harper in the semi-final in bracket #1. In bracket #2, Tom Bunting draws a bye and plays the winner of Ken Henson and Don Master. In bracket #2 Ken Henson defeat Don Masters 25-11 and advance to play Tom Bunting. In the two semi-final games, game one Herman Harper shut out Al Bowers 25-0 and Ken Henson defeat Tom Bunting 25-19. In the Championship game Herman Harper from Richmond, VA took First Place defeating Ken Henson 25-8 and went undefeated throughout the playoff with seven straight wins. Herman Harper was the tournament overall winner and Ken Henson came in second place.

Everybody really had a nice time and enjoyed the tournament. Door Prizes were given out every hour and there was free food and drinks throughout the tournament Special thanks to the staff from The Portsmouth Horseshoe Club for an outstanding job well done. I hope we can be a service again next year for such a great group of people.
