Every year at the World Horseshoe Tournament
they have a convention where the delegates from each state meet. When they
meet they discuss the NHPA rules and regulations, vote on where the World
will be in 2 years, and many other items that affect the sport of horseshoes.
For a while now, they have been asking for donations to help build the
National Horseshoe Pitcher's Hall of Fame and to finish the 2 buildings
Jack Freeman has started. They are also trying to complete the campsites.
This will all be in Tennessee. The NHPA is trying to promote the sport
of horseshoes and get these facilities built so they can host a World Tournament
there. This would bring the World Tournament closer to home.
Renee Cowan who is the 1st Vice President
for the VaHPA attended the convention this year in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada
as a delegate. At the convention they asked that every state try to do
its part, and come up with ways to help generate more donations to the
NHPF. When the Newsline is printed, it is noted how much is donated on
behalf of each state, and Virginia has not made a whole lot of donations
in the past. Back in 1999 shortly after our brother Eugene died, Jack Freeman
donated $2000 in his memory. It was discussed at the World 2002, and we
have been assured that this amount will be added to Virginia's totals.
Renee thought about how to increase
Virginia contributions to the NHPF, and came up with an idea that she introduced
at the State Singles meeting this year. She is asking that every member
of the VaHPA donate $1 at every tournament they attend, with a goal of
reaching $1000 by the State Singles next year. AND for every dollar donated
after the pitcher's first dollar, the pitcher will be issued a raffle ticket
for the donated items..
You don't have to be present to win, just make sure your name, address and phone number is on the ticket stub. You get the other half of the ticket for your records, and winners will be contacted by Renee To date, there are four packages to be raffled off. The first package is a 14k gold horseshoe charm and chain . The second is a Thoroughbred horseshoe box, 2 pairs of horseshoes (of your choosing), a measuring tool, and an NHPA towel. . Several people have approached Renee with other ideas to raise money for the NHPF. The third package is by The Winchester Horseshoe Club a quilt that was made by Yvonne Orndorff. We would like to thank Vonnie for donating her handiwork. The fourth package, 3 magnetic stickers, donated by Kevin Snelgrove, King Custom Sponsor of the VaHPA web site. The drawing for the raffle will be held at the 2003 Virginia State Singles Tournament. Renee Cowan is in charge of the Raffles. If you have any questions, if you would like to make a personal donation or if you have more ideas on how we can raise money for the NHPF, please contact Renee at (804)-559-9964 or her email address at drcringer@aol.com. She would be happy to answer your questions. Renee will be at as many tournaments as
she can, but if she isn't there, someone from the Hix family will, please
find “The BUCKET” and donate your dollar - it's for a good cause.
We would also like to keep you updated as to how much is collected at each
tournament. So far we have collected
