If you build it, .......they will come....... An Editorial by Kevin Snelgrove A baseball diamond in the middle of a cornfield in Dyersville, Iowa was once a man's dream. That dream became a reality. The same can be said about horseshoe courts in Richmond VA. Here in Virginia, one mans dream of changing his community is becoming a reality. Carl Otto, for the past twelve years, has taken a revitalized section of land in Richmond and turned it around. Starting with (continued on next page with photo's)
38-02-002 April 13,2002 By Kevin Snelgrove With an unexpected twist in life, the members of the Stuarts Draft Horseshoe Club did an outstanding job of running an event. Due to a death in our family both Pat and I were out of town for the tournament. As TD'S the day before the tournament we left all the paper work with Glenn Bouly, Jeremi Skillman, Bernie McGough and Pam Matsko. The group put the event together, and from all reports they did a great job. Our thanks and appreciation goes to them. It is a good feeling that all our efforts have been watched and learned by others in our club. We received a lot of compliments of the job you did! Thank you , Glenn, Jeremie, Bernie and Pam. The Photo's are posted and the results will be posted soon. Thanks

By Pat Snelgrove March 30, 2002 WOW what a turnout!! 52 pitchers signed up for the event, and 20 of them were pitchers that had to qualify in. A handful were familiar faces that had to re-qualify because they didn't have current stats, and the qualifying rounds took from 7:30am until 9:45am. Many of the newcomers were advised to be there early - it really helped. The sky was overcast, but the sun came out for a few minutes in the middle of the afternoon, and sunburns were evident by the end of the day. For the first event of the year, it was great. Floyd Hix and Renee Cowan did an excellent job of organizing the event and keeping it rolling, no easy task with so many new pitchers. A special thanks goes out to Ruth Hix who sat at the table and kept track of stats all day. Another special thanks to the folks manning the grill - as we all know, the pitchers attack the refreshment stand in waves. Never once did the pitchers have to wait, they were anticipated and served promptly. Thanks to all the pitchers that came out, and we look forward to a whole lot more competition as the season rolls on. A whole-hearted welcome goes out to the Chesapeake Horseshoe Club, who showed up with eight members. Another eight (continued on the next page with photo's) .

The increased storage space should allow me to keep at least a years worth of photos on the site before archiving them to CD. Tell your friends about the new address and visit our sponsor's site and show your support. If you would like to write a story about a tournament or something interesting, and be a part of this site you can send me an e mail, mail it snail mail or hand it to me at one of the tournaments. I would love help keeping this site interesting for all of us. On a final note, I really enjoy taking pictures. They tell a story of their own. From all the bunny ears over your friend's head to the hard pressed smiles and serious looks, I thank you all for letting me take your pictures and being a part of my horseshoe pitching family. Kevin Snelgrove, Web Master
Chesapeake It was March 17th, 2001 when the Chesapeake Horseshoe Club
was founded. Kirk Adams and crew have done a wonderful job over the last
year and they all look forward to the new courts being built this spring.
Construction has started and with good weather the sanctioned courts will
be there for the 2nd Annual Chesapeake Open.

first tournament of 2002 By Kevin Snelgrove On Saturday March 16th, the Hanover Parks and Recreation Department
held its 5th Annual Horseshoe Tournament. 32 pitchers had pre registered
for this non sanctioned event with 32 showing up. Pat & I were invited
by Mark Mater, from King William, who is trying to get a club started in
his area. Before the tournament, Mark had 9 pitchers that wanted to form
a club. By the end of the day, his newly forming club was close to 20.
We wish him all the success and will help where we can.
