Mountain View Singles
Jun 16, 2001
By Pat Snelgrove
The night before the tournament, the Stuarts Draft club members wondered if our tournament would even fly.  The week before, at another tournament, a rumor had spread that the Mountain View Singles had been canceled.  That fact, coupled with the fact that we were booked on the same day as the Winchester's 10th Top of Va.  To top it off, the weather reports had us pegged for 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms. All we could do was hold our breath the next morning, and see who showed up.  We appreciate all of those who did make it. Against all those odds, we still had a wonderful day.

The tournament started out HOT and HUMID, air so thick you could almost cut it with a knife. The rains held out for the morning classes and only bothered C Class in the afternoon. 3 rain delays hampered their play. fter the last delay, Mary and Kevin were left in * tie for 1st place.

Waiting out yet another downpour, with daylight quickly slipping away, they tossed around the decision to play it outYthat afternoon or pitch another day. Mary wanted to pitch right then and there, rain or shine. Kevin opted for at least the rain to stop, which it finally did. Navigating through the puddles, they found a pit t at had not been pitched on during the day. The clay was still tight anpacked[Ld iny a shortwhile, it worked up petly.!he am>:s  neck 'n neck most of the way though, but in the last couple of innings, Mary really piled on the points and rinrs and won theame.
