In closing out the year a few diehards came
out for the last sanctioned event of 2000. Small classes made up the day
with everyone pitching at once, made for a very relaxed event. Lots of
laughter could be heard before, during and after the games.
The lure of the web pages can be seen, when
a visitor showed up at the tournament. Frank Lucas from Richmond found
the web page and the calendar, made the drive from Richmond to see some
professionals play the game of horseshoes. Impressed with what he saw,
both he and his wife are looking forward to joining the sport next year.
A Class, made up of Ron and Thelma decided
to play 5 games. The first 3 games were won by Ron. Thelma got hot in the
4th and 5th games. After the 5th game, Thelma almost had Ron convinced
to go the best of 7. She was all warmed up and ready to go but they decided
to call it a day.
The largest class of the day, B Class, was
kept entertained by Sheldon. Some how he can find a way to get a laugh
out of most anything. He really wants one of those class champion
patches. Maybe next time.
Class C had the only playoff of the day. John
Ham and Herb Lux where after the crown. Herb just didn't have it in him
and John came out the victor.
Both Mary Dunivan and Terry Sparks have improved
so much over the course of this year. Terry says" I just can't seem to
beat her" They both have been practicing and improving on their games at
just about the same pace. Better luck next year Terry.
