| With one week to go before the Va State Singles, 25 pitchers
came out for a little more practice. With temps in the mid 80's and sunny
skies, the artificial shade on court 1, welcome to competitors seeking
to benefit from the shade. Those who sat and scored for A class enjoyed
the shade (see photos).
Renee Cowan, although pitching below her average, hung in there and managed to win all her games. The last 2 rounds of play were her best of the day. Against Thelma she pitched an 80.56%, and her last game against Ron Troubaugh with an 83.33%. The only playoff of the day was in D Class, between Bernie McGough and David Cowan Sr.. Bernie has been holding his average all year, while David has been practicing and improving his average. He just started pitching this year. David's high game of 24% was against Bernie, in the 5th round, but he could not keep up the energy going into the playoff. Bernie's high game of the day was against David in the playoff, with 22%. Looks like some good rivalry developing.. Ronnie Hicks won all of his games to win the B trophy. Ronnie's high game of 52.17% was in the first round of play against Marvin May. John Ham took 1st in C Class. John's only loss was to Cecil Painter in the first round of play. His high game of 44.12% was in the 5th round against Bobby Johnson |
